West Michigan Aviation Academy is a place full of innovation and excitement for those studying STEM! The teachers are very interactive with their students, so their interests can grow as their high school career develops.
My experience at West Michigan Aviation Academy, as a senior, has been an amazing adventure throughout my high school career. I remember as a Freshman going into a new school not knowing anyone, WMAA set up an orientation week for the new incoming freshman. The leadership team helped our class feel more comfortable with ourselves, classmates, and teachers. Now as a senior applying for colleges, scholarships, etc. This exciting but chaotic time in our lives has many of us seniors feeling worried and questioning what we want to do in the future. Our school has multiple clubs for all types of students to join and help answer those tough questions. The teachers, staff, and classmates create a great environment that help us towards our next significant steps towards our goals. At West Michigan Aviation Academy, I never felt like I was left to do things alone. There was always a trusted teacher, counselor, or staff member that was always willing to help me in times of need or confusion.
My experience at West Michigan Aviation Academy was very good because it drove me towards academic excellence since I was surrounded by motivated individuals. The school had an indusive environment for learning and the difficult grading scale pushed us even farther. I feel very ready for college because of the time management skills I have acquired after taking challenging classes. Due to the schools focus on engineering and aviation I was able to have a lot of experiences unique to my high school experience such as certain tours, robotics courses, laser cutting, and more. In some ways I think that the social life and culture could be improved because many students seem disconnected from each other. However, the school is recently making strides in this area. Once they noticed this problem, they created a spirit club and a culture group to combat the issue. Overall I feel like the school has set me up for everything I needed for college.
