West Lyon is a wonderful school and has many strong points, but like anything else it has things that could be better. I personally wish we had more clubs and activities as there is very few. Being in the top 4 of Iowa education centers 2 years in a row, we have very good academics. Some of our hands on resources could be improved and/or updated. Our athletics and musics both have wonderful programs. Our staff is great, teachers who care about their students and are very willing to help you out if you need it. All around West Lyon can serve you a amazing education.

West Lyon is a small school in the middle of rural Lyon county. It’s surrounded by cornfields. The children of four small towns attend this location making a large family like community. This school allows anyone to participate in any activities the student wishes. Teachers are compassionate and work with everyone’s schedule to make the activities work. The education is very good and the importance on academic achievements is evident in the awards West Lyon receives. Teacher are willing to come in early or stay late when students reach out. Our classrooms are small and each teacher knows their students on a personal level. Although there is not a lot of diversity there is a lot off opportunity to succeed.
As a Senior that is about to graduate, the past couple of weeks I have been looking back and evaluating my high school career. At West Lyon students are able to create a special bond with each and every teacher. West Lyon has a very strong tie in with the surrounding communities which allows students to feel supported by people in the community. The reason why I chose four stars instead of five is because I feel as if West Lyon also does not offer many advanced classes to prepare students for college. One more reason I feel that West Lyon is not a five star school is because at times the teachers and faculty focus more on the sports than on the education. Attending West Lyon and soon graduating I feel as if I am satisfied with the education I have received and have overall had a positive high school experience.
