My experience at West High was definitely a good one to say the least. This school changed my perspective over reality and people in general. I have had a fun and long journey with my time here. Overall, West High has a lot to offer to students, from dual-enrollment to endless clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities. The teachers and staff are always helpful in guiding students in the right direction, along with the counselors who make sure students are getting their priorities straight.
It's a pretty good school! I've gone here for all 4 years, as have all my other siblings, and it's been a pretty good time. Our sports teams are pretty average, but when we're good, everyone is really supportive! People aren't very involved in stuff at West. Usually whatever people do freshman year is what the end up doing the rest of their time at West, but people really enjoy what they do and participate from the heart. The teachers are really cool and helpful, though sometimes they can be mean or really strict, but students tend to stick together and everyone is nice and cool once you get to know them. Our academics are really good, as we have AP, IB, and college courses easily available for students, and the teachers and administrators are nice and eager to help people. It's a really good place once you get involved. I wish the stigma around our school wasn't so negative- it's really a good place to be!
I attended West High School for all 4 years of high school. With the teachers, it was a real toss-up. I had both really nice teachers that I still reach out to today, and teachers that I never want to see again. The teaching styles varied, too. Some teachers are very thorough and helpful, but I had some teachers, like my Algebra II teacher, who would go over a subject for one class period, assign homework on it, check for completion the next day, and then never go over it again until the chapter test. I barely passed because of that. West High has a great music and arts program; I was in their orchestra all 4 years and I can't count how many art classes I took. Unfortunately, Administration staff seem very unapproachable and I was usually scared to speak to them about anything. They have good resources in regards to sexual health, despite the fact that their Sex Ed health unit covers hardly anything.
