West offers high-level classes via their AP and IB programs, offers many extracurricular activities catering to diverse interests, and has a student body that is diverse but unified. There are many good teachers that care about the students. They do push IB though, it's good content but difficult and I got more college credit through AP, and others got more credit through dual enrollment. However, you will be exposed to many different kinds of people and can become involved in the wrong crowd. Don't hang out behind the Dollar General across the street.
This school has been my home for the last four years and I wouldn't trade that for the world. I was very involved in sports, more specifically volleyball. My 4 seasons on the team made all of my hard work worth it. My team was so supportive and welcoming to everyone and I always looked forward to practice and games. The teachers really care for their students too. They promote hard work, organization, and community but they also give support and grace when you start to struggle. Many teachers keep up with their students even after they graduate which just goes to show how caring our teachers truly are. There are many opportunities for students at West too. You have the option to be full IB or just take IB and AP classes; there is so many options. There are also clubs for almost every interest: Pepclub, younglife, LGTBQ club, Key club, student council, sports networking, nutrition club, and so many more. West high made me a better person through the opportunities and community it had.
I had a great time at the school because it gave me all the tools I need to succeed in life and prepare me for college. The staff was kind and supportive, making sure to help me anytime I was confused with schoolwork or had personal problems. The school was a comforting place to be at and I never felt unsafe or afraid to be there. I would recommend the school because of the vast amount of classes they had to offer, as they offer college-level IB classes that were able to help me prepare for my future. They have classes for everyone, from theatre and choir classes for those interested in performing to a cosmetology class for those that wanted to specialize in that area. It is a very nice school.
