Overall, I had positive experience in my one year at this school. I transferred from Dutch Fork High School, which in terms of demographics are two entirely different worlds. Nonetheless, West Ashley High School has left a lasting impression on me. The instructors and administration are wonderful people who really care about the well-being of the students. Just as any school though, the experience is what you make it, and if I had the chance I wouldn't have minded going all four years at West Ashley High!

Amazing leadership under Principal Runyon. Truly cares about every student, teacher and staff member and safety is his number #1 concern. I have served at the PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) Team Leader and SIC (School Improvement Council) for the past two years and have enjoyed the unity we have created as a team. School is experiencing amazing growth and the opportunities are endless with the new Center for Advanced Studies addition slated for 2020. CAS classes begin this fall allowing students to complete first two years of college while in high school. Be involved. Be a committed parent and you will have an amazing experience at West Ashley High School
I loved how involved the teachers were with their students. They always made sure we all understood the content and were prepared for the tests. If you ever felt unprepared, there was after school tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday as well as your teacher's personal hours. The only thing I would change is the student involvement and classes they offer. Only a handful of students would participate in school activities which made it less fun. I always wanted our student section to be big but it never was. I also wish they offered more dual credit courses. It would have been very beneficial especially for people who can't rely on getting credit from AP tests.
