West Albany high school is known as the rich kid school, and it lives up to the name. West has snobby rich kids that will treat you like trash if you don't drive a brand new BMW. Our athletics take place over everything, nobody care about the art kids, music or anything else. Sports are the main event here, they'd much rather produce a D1 athlete than a academic genius here. Many students do and can get away with coming to classes high, and vaping in class. Now i do have to say all the teachers here are excellent, they really care about the students that actually put time and effort into their school work. Overall west Albany high school is the better school in the greater Albany public school district, it is not the best school in oregon.
For a relatively small school that doesn't get a whole lot of funding, West does a great job motivating its students and providing a positive atmosphere. The small city of Albany certainly isn't lacking in school spirit or quality teachers. Most of the staff genuinely care about their students' success and will go above and beyond to help them with class material. The lack of funding for some academic activities like newspaper and mock trial were a bit frustrating, as money is necessary to provide students ample time to learn, contribute, and stay competitive. I graduated in 2010 so I'm not sure what has changed in terms of academic offerings. While attending, I did earn about 25 college credits which was great. I hope they continue to offer students more college credit opportunities! It's also a decent school for sports and remains pretty competitive in football.
West has great teachers in a horrible building. Football is the encouraged sport, while most others are left to struggle for money. There is one club which puts on fun dances, but the leadership club itself is incredibly toxic and unwelcoming. I also got dress-coded once when the only part of my body showing skin was a sliver of my stomach, which was irritating because a t-shirt shows more skin that that outfit does, so it doesn't have great administration.
