I attended Weld Central High School from 2013 to 2017. This is the prime example of a small-town school. My father and his siblings attended Weld Central and many of their own classmates' children now attend the school. It has been renovated over the years and even a whole new building was added but, it's racist and hateful culture is still the same. Unfortunately, like many students of color, I saw how the school system was geared to benefit nonminority students. Whenever racial incidents occurred with students and teachers they were brushed off by administration due to the impact of community members who also added to the prejudiced culture. It was discouraging to see behavior like this was allowed and it was not till college that I realized the injustice of its minority students. I can only hope as the world and our future generations continue to fight for the rights of minorities the school will change with it. To future kids who attend Weld Central, be you and be proud.
High school is supposed to be some of the best years of your life, but going to a smaller school makes that hard. While there was a lot of drama that went through both the students and the teachers. We have faced criticism over the years for our mascot, the rebel, and more. But I love the friends I have made and how it allowed my to grow as a person. My high school experience might not have been movie perfect but it will always shape the way I am in life. I will always be thankful for the teachers that made it enjoyable and pushed me and the the teachers that taught me how to push through obstacles that were in my pathway.
It was a fun school, but only because of the extra curricular activities like Band and E-sports. At least for my time being there the teachers were often polite and fairly patient but the classes were often rather boring. I took part in many of the schools activities and worked concession games for sporting events many times. It was typically rather fun and we never had any issues or bad times. So all in all it was an ok time but I think it was less because of the school itself but rather my friends in it.
