On paper, the concept that the school was originally built on sounds fantastic. Students are able to achieve at an accelerated pace while preparing themselves for their future, by being able to take classes at the local community college and promises of outside of the box learning. These were mere fantasies that were instilled during the first few years I attended, but these were quickly replaced with harsh realities of teachers that could care less and very mediocre learning environments. The school lacked basic amenities, lacking their own cafeteria and gym, along with any noteworthy afterschool programs in the past few years. The school itself is in a cramped building the struggles to house the bare minimum classes that are offered there, with only one AP course, physics, being offered. There is a singular counselor for the entire 6-12 student body, who was little help is most matters as they seemed almost clueless when I needed help with basic academic problems.
Wayne School of Engineering (WSE) is a great school and offers pretty excellent courses. It partners with the community college to provide students with an opportunity to get their associates degree, and has many fun teachers and class on campus. WSE also has a very laid back environment, with project and team based learning to help not only better of education, but our social skills as well. Extracurriculars and Scholastic clubs are plentiful throughout the school grounds. WSE does lack some organization and communication skills for the best classes to take (students are given the choice), but overall it is a great school.
The Wayne School of Engineering has challenged me more than any other school I have attended. I feel it has prepared me for college and my career. Not only do they focus on education but also giving back to the community by requiring grade level projects summarizing our volunteering in the community. The teacher I have had in my courses are extremely helpful and caring. Making sure that you understand a topic, and if not they go the extra mile to help you. These classes also have technology based learning with assignments given online and VR sets. Giving a modern learning experience. Along with this, you are also able to take college courses at the local community college given many of the students the opportunity to graduate high school with their associates degree. Another way that they are properly preparing their students for college and their career.
