At waverly high school we do not have amazing sports teams, or extremely talented musicians. Well, maybe a few of those but, what waverly has is a sense of community within each of their groups. Cross country has the greatest community in the School followed by the music programs community. However, certain classes in the music department are in danger of being cancelled as schools move away from the fine arts and towards technology. Our school has great teachers such as the history teacher Mr./Coach Lurie who I knew before he ever taught me because he tried to inspire and drive every student to be a better version of himself. Mr. Onze the orchestra/modern band teacher, whom I have had teach me since middle school is one of the most relatable teachers at our school. He teaches us not only to play songs but to play songs that we like, or believe we would enjoy playing. We have a lot of input on which songs/pieces we learn. Which is one of the things that makes waverly a “good” school.
It's a very diverse school. That rarely has any fights or issues. They offer a lot of programs and other opportunities to help pay for college. I'm currently going to this high and another (the program) and in this program I got 18 college credits and a scholarship. Plus you would make life long friendships with the people here. All the connections I've made were with the teachers and students that I will cherish forever. Each person who has gone to Waverly senior high school has graduated feeling more fulfilled as long as you consider and take the very benefital opportunities given. The high school also has two soccer fields a baseball team, football and more. A close friend of mine got a scholarship for getting recognized for being on a sports team. Each student gets benefits and many different clubs as well like LGBTQ+, french club, and more. It does have a few minor flaw but no school is perfect but I do really recommend this school if you live in the Michigan area.
Turning into a Lansing school. Fights almost every day. Just implemented a new grading system to boost their "failing" students up to the C to D range. Top A students suffer from the new grading scale. Demotivates students when they see that the majority of the work they do only counts for 20% of their entire grade, while tests count for 80%.
