Waukee High School has been a great place for me to grow and learn. The buildings are clean and well taken care of by amazing staff. Almost all of the teachers care very much about their students. Even the lunch ladies all have connections with the students and they treat us amazingly. I have been successful in all of my classes because of my teachers abilities to help me learn and understand everything they give, some teachers are more hardcore and some are more easygoing, but I have has great results with most. There are a select group of teachers that were not the greatest or most helpful but dealing with them became easier as the classes went on. Through the online learning caused by Covid-19 the school was extremely helpful and understanding of students and their needs through a stressful time. I am very appreciative of my school and would recommend it to everyone if they are looking for a big school in the suburbs!
Waukee high school has many great opportunities for highschool students. They have a wide selection of AP classes available to juniors and seniors and APEX learning environments partners with businesses in the des moines area. Students can work with businesses to extend their knowledge of the business world and strengthen their ability to work with various types of people. Many of the AP classes are also DMACC advantage courses so you can either take the community college credit or the AP credit for that specific class. Des moines is generally a diverse city and that is definitely represented in Waukee highschool. Although, I would say while it is diverse in races, the economic classes represented are not as diverse. Various sports and clubs are available but the focus still remains on the bigger ones which is not surprising (such as show choir and football). I would say because of the demographic alcohol and vaping is a big part of the community which is honestly sad.
My experience at Waukee High School has been great! The teachers are wonderful and kind humans, there are plenty of sports, activities, and clubs to participate in, and I feel I have learned the necessary skills in order to succeed later in life.
