My experience so far as a junior at Watkins Mill high school has been very interesting to say the least. Being a new student on top of being a full IB diploma candidate has caused me to gravitate towards very amazing and hard working students! Everyone I have met has been tremendously friendly; pointing me to classrooms and initiating conversation. The environment at Watkins Mill is very warm, and playful. From the administration to the students, everyone is very relaxed and there is no passivity or tensions. As far as the curriculum, every teacher I’ve had goes a reasonable pace and of course the work load will challenge every student, but it forces you to apply yourself even more. Classroom sessions are normally very interactive and there’s a lot of learning through dialogue which makes it easier to communicate your thoughts on what you do or don’t understand, as opposed to just staring at a board and taking notes.

I loved attending WMHS! Special career programs such as Project Lead The Way Engineering is provided for students interested in preparing for college. The International Baccalaureate program is also available for students who are ready to challenge themselves academically. Although I do have these great things to say about Watkins Mill, i would still like there to be more funding for athletics other than football, the theater department, and various other departments in the school that are weaker than others.
My favorite thing about Watkins Mill is how much they try to prepare everyone for college, they have college fairs throughout all 4 years. Not to mention it also has college tracks, ACES all available for students. The teachers are fantastic as well, you can tell that most of them genuinely care about their students and want them to succeed in whatever they chose to pursue. The attitudes teacher have in this school is refreshing they don't act superior to the student instead they try to understand each student's needs and adjust to them. I've gone to multiple high schools in my life and Watkins Mill is by far the best because it tries to be what the student needs to succeed, they don't just follow the criteria handed to them by the state, they take those instructions and enhance them to better the lives of its students.
