I would like to say that the faculty at Watkins Mill are very supportive and outgoing with their students (as long as the student shows them respect). I had a very good experience at Watkins Mill High School, I did the IB Career Program while I was there, and it prepared me to conduct research, write essays and manage my time. The only downside about Watkins Mill is that there are a few students who can be disrespectful, or not take school seriously enough. As long as you work hard, join organizations and keep your head on right, then you will have no problem!

My experience so far as a junior at Watkins Mill high school has been very interesting to say the least. Being a new student on top of being a full IB diploma candidate has caused me to gravitate towards very amazing and hard working students! Everyone I have met has been tremendously friendly; pointing me to classrooms and initiating conversation. The environment at Watkins Mill is very warm, and playful. From the administration to the students, everyone is very relaxed and there is no passivity or tensions. As far as the curriculum, every teacher I’ve had goes a reasonable pace and of course the work load will challenge every student, but it forces you to apply yourself even more. Classroom sessions are normally very interactive and there’s a lot of learning through dialogue which makes it easier to communicate your thoughts on what you do or don’t understand, as opposed to just staring at a board and taking notes.
Watkins Mill is a welcoming and supportive community. We organize food and clothing drives to help the less fortunate members of our Watkins Mill community. Just like any other school, we do have our downsides, and the biggest one is our test scores. Being in a very diverse school we have students of all backgrounds and learning styles. But we also have different financial backgrounds, and while some students can pay for outside test prep others can't. So my biggest change to my school would be to include free test prep for a student who can't afford private tutoring. The biggest lesson that I have learned from attending Watkins Mill High School is to, never judge a book by its cover. Until you have actually stepped foot on Watkins mill campus you will never be able to talk about what really goes on within the community, and trust me it's a community worth getting to know.
