I went to all four years of high school at WCHS and loved my experience. This is a small town school with the typical "small town norms." The community is very involved and supportive in the students and school activities. There are lots of scholarship opportunities to those who have applied themselves to their academic and school involvement. Also, there are lots of clubs and leadership opportunities for students and a faculty who supports new clubs, activities, and programs. The agriculture program is the most successful.

Some downsides to the school is that the athletic reputation is not high, although we have brand new facilities to use. Some teachers are AMAZING and others are very narrow minded and rude. With being a small town school, there aren't as many opportunities or awareness of things beyond this small town. Teachers come from other town in ND and recruit to college only in ND or MN. Being in the dead center of the oil field, lots of kids go right into the work force.

WCHS is a great environment for learning. The teachers are there to make sure you succeed and most will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The one thing I was disappointed about was that a lot of new strict policies put in place due to certain student behavior. The school is awful at individual punishment and tends to attack groups. As far as academics, there are several advanced class to push those who need it and many electives to chose from. I would like to see more energy and money put into the music department as our band teacher is currently split between schools.
Only good things are the teachers and classes. Ladies at the front desk are dismissive, act like you aren't there. The teachers are great, extremely respectful towards students that deserve it. Choice in classes offered has expanded since last year, so that's a plus.

Students are unmotivated, complain when they fail and act like there's no reason for it. The school has a big drug problem, and when brought to staff's attention they do next to nothing. A few days worth of suspension, at most. Funding is spent towards our sports teams and promotions, while arts and other clubs have to raise money for competitions. Games are underwhelming, and we lose most of the time.

Also, there's a bullying issue. If you don't follow along the crowd that vapes in class and think they're the biggest deal around, and gets into fights over small things, you 're an outcast. If you say anything wrong to those particular people, they're going to start rumors or try to fight you.
