I loved the atmosphere of WHS!! Watertown is a small community of about 3,000 people, so it was a situation where 'everybody knew everybody'. I loved how everyone was truly friends, and that you always had someone to go to for everything. However, one thing that I would change for sure is some of our staff/administrators. I have a counselor that currently does not ever answer emails and will refuse to talk to you unless you "make an appointment" (via email). This obviously was not a good representation of the entire staff, however, there was a couple more administrators that I felt cared more about social status or what people thought about them, rather than just being a teacher and helping students.

Watertown High School is a very good school with a few major issues. There is a very limited option for classes, as well as a lack of good teachers. There is no sexual education, yet when students come to school pregnant they are frowned upon. A few teachers have been scolded for being racist towards students, however when the students go to the office and make complaints no action is taken. On the other hand, the highschool does take academic achievement very seriously. I do feel as though I have received an education, however I do not feel prepared for the real world. I do not know how to file for my taxes or how I would go about buying an apartment or house, or which one would be more cost effective. Often times in school speeches they say, "College won't baby you" or "Get ready for the real world", yet the highschools offer no assistance in preparing for the real world. It seems as if their goal is to culture shock their students once they venture out.
The staff was honestly so incredible! I moved there sophomore year and everyone was so welcoming. There's no doubt that this school had that small-town-everyone's-family vibe and that has carried into my college years. I love visiting old coaches and teachers and some I consider family now. They always believed in me and pushed me to be the best person, athlete, and student that I can be and I appreciate that "tough love" that some would give. I don't think I would be on the career path that I am now, chasing a radical job, if it wasn't for them.
If I were to critique anything, I think it would be some sports. Since it was a relatively small school at the time, many sports were just now starting up so we didn't have the best training. However, I have visited during the summers and kept up with the teams and I have to admit that they are improving everyday and I am so proud to say I'm from Watertown.
