Waterford High School Reviews
Rating 3.77 out of 5 263 reviews
I had transferred to Waterford during my junior year of high school. While it was hard transferring to a different high school, the students and teachers were all welcoming and willing to help. Later on in the year I settled down with a few groups of friends. There were a few characteristics about Waterford that I LOVED -- getting involved in sports. I joined the cheer team in the winter of junior year for basketball season which is where I got FREE access to the weight room. I started falling in love with the weight room this summer and showed up basically everyday. I also loved the art department during my junior year, it sort of felt like a home to me. Nobody judged my artwork (other than the college board) and that's what made it feel safe. The chance for dual enrollment through Gateway was a new experience but it genuinely helped my mental state because I feel as though high school was more stressful than the college classes I was in! Also the lunch line food is amazing!
My experience with Waterford Union High School as a Junior has mostly benefitted my education and college and career readiness. The required classes I am taking currently have made me really start to think about life after high school. For example, classes like Composition really gear students to explore their options in careers and colleges at the same time enhancing their writing skills. However, not all classes here are exceptional with some of them being mostly "self-taught" where the teachers don't really do much besides mumble through the material and answer questions with little to no effort. But overall, at Waterford Union, students have a chance to grow into mature young adults, ready to make a difference in the world.
I had a really good experience at Waterford Union High School. The teachers were great-extremely involved in making sure the students succeed and learn the material. They would push us to do our best. They were available and readily involved our parents when needed. They had a diverse extracurricular program with a strong emphasis on balancing academics with time spent outside of school in sports, theater, band etc. The worst part of my school were the conditions of the facility. We are in major need of some of the basics. We had a ceiling collapse from a broken pipe, there is mold in some of the rooms and our toilets have backed up. Overall I love the school and felt they did a good job preparing me for mu future.
