During my first two years at W-L, I feel like they didn’t go as well because I wasn’t the type of person to ask for help when I needed it back then and my grades somewhat suffered the consequences. But my last two years at W-L were a blast! Not only academically but overall. Looking back at it now, to make high school a memorable experience, it’s not just going to school and go back home, but it’s about being involved with the community and to network yourself. During my senior year especially is when I got so many useful contacts that I will definitely need for the future.

Wonderful school, needs more diversity though. The school is conveniently located and secure. There are plenty of sports and clubs to meet all student's interest. The staff is friendly and eager to help students succeed. Fantastic curriculum. Overall had a great high school experience!
Washington-Lee has a great community of teachers, students and counselors. Classes are hands-on, and the adults in the building really care about their students. The curriculum gives them a lot of room to teach what they want, but parent involvement prevents the crossing of lines. The IB program is rigorous and offers a challenge, but also creates a bubble of competition that causes quite a bit of stress for the students. Additionally, it creates division between language classes that have IB options versus those who do not. The classes with IB are given more resources and preference, and this divide needs to be amended. I took Japanese for 3 years and my teacher fought just to keep a single classroom for all three levels. I hope my younger brother doesn't face more of the same and that the students will be able to take the languages for their cultural value and not just to complete an IB requirement.
