Washington High School was a great place to go to high school at. It has one of the most diverse groups of people at in the Midwest. If I remember correctly, there are over 30 languages spoken at Washington High School on a daily basis. The people there are nice. There's a lot of different options as a student there to get involved within the community. There's tons of different student clubs you can join ranging from the arts to DECA to quiz bowl to yoga club and many more! They have a lot of opportunity to take challenging classes that will help you succeed in the academic realm as well. I took a lot of AP classes that gave me college credits once I graduated. I highly recommend either those or dual credit courses you can take through the school to anyone looking to further their education once they graduate high school. One thing they took pride in is trying to get all students to graduate within the four years expected of high school students.
Overall, Washington is an amazing school! The teachers and faculty are wonderful and do an awesome job helping student academically, and personally. They not only provide tutoring for student struggling to maintain good grades, but they also provide school supplies and other personal necessities to students in need. The diversity makes the school unique and really prepares students for the real world, and builds their respect for other cultures, religions, and people with troubling income. Washington also provides around 5 different languages for students to learn (Spanish, German, French, Lakota dialect, and ASL). My school also provides a program within the curriculum that aids students who’s first language is not English. While translating work into their first language, they also learn what the work means in English. Washington is the best public school in Sioux Falls, SD, I absolutely recommend attending.
Washington is an excellent school with a lot of school spirit! However, it's not as diverse; most of the student body comprises Asians, and there are barely any African American students. Some teachers are really good, but there are teachers that you have to adapt to their teaching style to pass their class. I've had a great high school experience at WHS so far. Also, the principal is very approachable; you easily see him walking around, and he's easy to talk to in case you need to voice any complaints. Lastly, the counselors aren't that good, though. Thankfully my counselor is new, and he's the best, but I don't hear good things about the other counselors from my friends.
