Wapato High School presents loads of opportunities for students to explore in terms of what they are interested in. These opportunities present themselves in areas such as art where one can simply take an art class and deal with the standard drawing and painting, but they offer a variety of areas for a student's creativity to come out to such as audio/video production, photography, digital art, floriculture, and more. The teachers here also genuinely care about the students in terms of helping them succeed academically. They even care about the students on a personal level to where they want the students to be safe no matter what and offer help in terms of listening to a student's problem and seeing what they can do to help the student. However, one problem with the school can come in with heavy bias towards sports and athletics where they get a large amount of support and cheer compared to robotics which does not nearly get the same type of respect that sports tend to in school.
I like the way that my school has their rules. The policies are strict in some areas and lenient in a few. For instance, the sports rules are strict and if you miss a day of school then you would have to be excused, otherwise the student would not able to participate in that activity that day. Every student gets along with each other and when we celebrate as a community, every family is comfortable with each other. If a family is going through a rough patch then the community will get together and comfort them. I would change the way that some teachers have their rules. Many of the teachers would treat the students like children and would help them every step of the way. The students, in my opinion, should be able to do assignments on their own.
My experience at Wapato High School has been amazing. I have been heavily involved in the extracurricular activities and the learning opportunities that they offer. Through the opportunity to become involved in FFA and ASB (Leadership), I have also gotten the opportunity to travel, meet new people and contribute to my community. The one thing I would like to see changed, however, is the communication between Wapato High School and parents. Since most of the parents at Wapato High School did not finish high school, they do not know they have the opportunity to be a part of a committee. The opportunity for parents to be a part of something at their child’s school need to be advertised and talked about more.
