Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School Reviews
Rating 3.71 out of 5 291 reviews
After living my entire life in the school district. It is safe to say everyone is welcoming to others that may be coming from different places. However, there are groups that split themselves into different factions and this can have a road block if a person does not reach the right group. Moving to this school by 10-12 grade will be hard to fit in as everyone knows each other.
I first came to Long Island in late 2011 from Canarsie, Brooklyn, and I started first grade at the Deauville Gardens Elementary School. Following the completion of elementary and middle school, I attended the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School starting in September of 2019. In my 4 years here, I have to say that I was truly happy to be a part of such a wonderful school community. It's easy to make friends here, the teachers are very supportive and rigorous, and everyone is really accepting. The activities the school offer is truly wonderful, and everyone strives for success through friendship, hard work, and fun. Although I'm leaving the school in June, I thank it for the position it brought me to. Although it's a good school, it has it's problems, such as misbehaving students and gang activity.
Copiague High School is an average school. It's pretty diverse so students are really open to people of different backgrounds; both culturally and economically. It also has a wide variety of classes you can take, including AP, Honors, and college courses (Farmingdale College). The teachers are good too, but some can be prickly. The better ones usually teach the higher-up classes (APs usually). The food is pretty average. You can have a good day or a bad day. The library is always adding new books (and if she likes you, the librarian can even order a book you like and add it to the library). I think they handled the pandemic pretty well, by keeping us at home. There was a bombing scare once, so safety is somewhat rocky and the sports teams (football especially) isn't that great. So if you're a big sports person, don't come to Copiague. But if you're into music, I think we have some of the best.
