Whitman has a great faculty and great classes that help prepare your college and the real world. The teachers have such a wide variety of personalities, teaching styles, and difficulty which gives you experience in how to deal with different professors. The different types of classes you are able to take vary from psychology, personal finance, or anatomy. It is easy to get help in classes from teachers, the guidance office, and even from teacher assistants. The school is pretty inclusive, with programs such as the black student union, and best buddies. Overall, Walt Whitman High School is a great place!

Whitman is predominantly white, and many kids come from well off families with money. Courses are very much rushed, and the majority of the staff doesn't really seem to understand how to teach the material fully to the students. Some teachers are even forced to teach subjects they don't necessarily understand fully. The counselors, care little about you until junior year, which is when they finally take the time to get to know your name and grade. I haven't felt a lot of support from the school educationally, and I haven't seen it benefitting me either. Furthermore, Whitman is very weak in English. I can't recall lesson that's helped further my writing or grammar skills. It has a few good math teachers, but more weaker teachers that haven't been taught how to teach the material, but rather how to read the packet given by MCPS that in itself sucks. I really did want to like this school, but I haven't seen anything special come from it.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved here, from sports to drama to computer science and introduction to engineering. There are tons of clubs to choose from and lots of support from the community. This school definitely has an environment that encourages students to work hard and push themselves, successfully preparing us for a college education. The only issue is that the student population is not diverse at all due to the location, and therefore is not an accurate representation of the real world. I enjoyed coming to college from this high school and meeting a variety of different kinds of people that I wouldn't meet in high school.
