Walt Whitman High School gave me a stellar education, and I feel very prepared for the academic challenges of college. Most of the teachers at Whitman are clearly dedicated to their students and their specialties, which provides a supportive, scholarly environment. The main downfalls of Whitman relate to its lack of diversity, specifically ethnic diversity. For example, there are very few African-American students, which fosters racism in some sectors of the Whitman community. Many, if not all students of color can testify to their experiences with blatant racism and/or micro-aggressions from peers and teachers alike. Despite the racism, homophobia, mental health issues that affect Whitman students, the community is strong. Students are dedicated not only to their schoolwork, but to improving their environment and finding solutions to the issues that impact them and their peers every day. While Whitman's reputation is mixed, my experience was overall very meaningful.

Whitman has a great faculty and great classes that help prepare your college and the real world. The teachers have such a wide variety of personalities, teaching styles, and difficulty which gives you experience in how to deal with different professors. The different types of classes you are able to take vary from psychology, personal finance, or anatomy. It is easy to get help in classes from teachers, the guidance office, and even from teacher assistants. The school is pretty inclusive, with programs such as the black student union, and best buddies. Overall, Walt Whitman High School is a great place!
Lots of resources (courtesy of its wealthy student body), strong academic ethos. Most people are ambitious and competitive, and it's a little bit of a pressure cooker. Debate team is better than the football team!
