Walnut Hills is a great school for students who are dedicated to their academics. The school offers several advanced courses and college preparatory resources. The student body tends to be well engaged, with a plethora of clubs and student organizations for peers to join. The population is large and at times it can make the building feel claustrophobic, but solutions can be found. The arts department, specifically music, is funded only by the families and alumnae of the school, as there is no financing for it. Regardless, Walnut Hills still boasts a prestigious music program.
The experience you get at Walnut is unlike any other. Every activity imaginable is available at your fingertips - whether you're interested in varsity basketball, Science Olympiad, theater, etc. The long list of available courses gives students the opportunity to explore all of their different interests. The academic environment is rigorous in the best way possible. The numerous AP classes available and the school's connection to College Credit Plus allow students to become familiar with college classes and even earn college credit in high school! Just like any other school, Walnut is not perfect. The administration can be quite disorganized at times. Nonetheless, I am so thankful for all of my years at Walnut. I have learned so much and I have gained so many role models.
It's a very good school for academics. There's an overwhelming number of opportunities to take AP or advanced classes. Regardless of your interests, there is almost certainly a club or program for you. Most of the teachers are good or at least decent, but some can be rather ignorant, unprepared, or otherwise unaccommodating. The students are, for the most part, determined to do well, which can create a really stressful environment. The school is also overcrowded, class sizes are large, but most teachers will still find time to form meaningful connections with students. The school counselors make almost no effort to connect with or provide any advice to students. The students there are, for the most part, respectful and kind to their classmates. Teachers all provide help nights as opportunities for students to come to class after school to get extra help. There is a wide variety of athletic opportunities for all students. The school is very diverse and most people are very accepting.
