Wake STEM Early College High School Reviews
Rating 4.08 out of 5 52 reviews
It definitely prepared me for college and gave me many of the opportunities that would lead to my future success. The name alone carries a lot of weight, whether you are applying for scholarships or college. However, the administration is pretty lousy at actually telling you why you need college credits, what to do with them, and how to best use NC State as a resource. Also, they moved the school to the richer part of wake county to appeal to a more upper middle class demographic, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth as someone who came into Wake STEM as a low income student. Overall, I would say this school can definitely help you in your success, just know that you will also have to put in a lot of work to get places.
With the new location and administration, I attended this school at a time of flux. In general, it feels like the administration is not in the same loop as the teachers, and the teachers are not on the same page with students. Teachers often assign overwhelming projects, with multiple classes having huge assignments all due at the same time. Administration is unaware or apathetic about teachers that know very little about the subjects they are teaching.
STEM is an amazing opportunity for any student that wants to go beyond the typical high school experience. The teachers care so much about their students, and the small class size ensures lots of individual attention. Project based learning does a great job at preparing students for college and beyond, as does the dual-enrollment program in partnership with NC State.
