My experience at W.T. Woodson High School has been incredible. Along with its strong academic features and supportive teachers and peers, Woodson makes you feel welcome. Whether you're interested in planting trees and join the environmental club, want to represent your culture in the culture club, or enjoy in singing and join the choir, you feel welcomed and like you are part of a family! The only thing that both other students and I would like to see change is school food. The frozen pizza and microwaved melted cheese on nachos aren't the most appetizing meals, not to mention healthy. Nevertheless, I look forward to spending the last two years of my high school career at W.T. Woodson High School!
I believe that W.T Woodson High School deserves a 3/5 stars because, although the classes were highly advance and educationally beneficial towards preparation for college, there was a lack of individuality in the teaching staff's abilities. Personally, I prefer being taught in a more thought provoking environment and, unfortunately, Woodson was one of the High Schools that were unable to meet that preference for me. I grew up in a military family and I have experienced many schooling districts so I believe I have a knowledgable view on how students should be taught. However, everyone has their own opinions and therefore ratings have been created. If you are a parent reading this who believes that testing and the infamous outstanding 4.0 GPA is best for your child then, by all means, Woodson is the school for you!
The atmosphere at Woodson is a competitive one, in which students are expected not only to excel academically but also to partake in multiple extracurriculars. Students have many resources available to them. They are free to use the school’s Writing or Math centers for help on assignments, and the Career Center’s door is always open for those in need of job and college information. An overwhelming majority of the teachers are caring and dedicated, and they make themselves available for after school help. The typical Woodson student is well-rounded and driven. Most of the students participate in the arts or in a sport of some sort, and the majority of them takes honors and/or AP courses during their time at Woodson. Overall, Woodson does a good job of preparing students for their future educational endeavors, and many students make valuable connections throughout their time there.
