From Vistamar School

At Vistamar, we are committed to the idea that there’s a better way to do high school. Our stellar faculty and staff, engaged parents, and an eager, diverse student body make it so.

We understand that our students are only with us for four short years, so we’ve designed our program to provide experiences, challenges, and opportunities to ensure that our students become active, engaged, and inspired. We encourage them to move beyond the status quo while relentlessly embracing diversity of thought and experience.

High school shouldn’t be just a means to an end, but an end in and of itself. Vistamar isn’t just a series of things to check off a list, but an experience where, together, we create the kind of community that prepares each student for success in college and well beyond.

With our curriculum inspired by the finest programs in the world and a strong and intentionally diverse community—we’re a place to discover who you are and what you can do.

At last! A school that is what it advertises. Small class sizes, caring teachers, real diversity, challenging curriculum, plenty of extracurricular activities. My daughter has tried things that she held back from before: she's acting and dancing in the school plays, took AP Computer Science, she's photo editor for the Yearbook, and lighting director for the Drama Dept. Also played volleyball and soccer. The school is a real community, offering a Culture Club for Parents, an International potluck, called Taste of Vistamar, an evening celebrating African American Culture called Soulful Celebration.

I have 2 daughters at Vistamar. Vistamar has a fresh approach to High School based on the concept of “a Better Way to do High School". Evidence of this approach is found in the resources devoted to individual students in the form of faculty relationships, class size, office hours, academic advisory, life planning resources and athletic coaching. Additionally, Vistamar provides a mindful and balanced approach to curriculum, rigor, academic load, and exposure to enrichment electives such as coding, arts and languages. With all the benefits of an independent school, Vistamar blends in a rich, real world experience with exposure to the greater community, diversity of student body and personal responsibility.
We've had two nieces graduate from Vistamar and have a daughter who is currently a junior there. What I love most about Vistamar is that it not only prepares the students for college, but also for the real world. The school is academically rigorous but helps alleviate some of the pressure by providing an amazing community and support structure with both faculty and other students. The school lives and breathes its commitment to have its students work with people from diverse backgrounds and points of view. We've seen our daughter become so comfortable working through problems with people with from different backgrounds, that it's become part of who she is. We've also been very happy with the attention that she gets from her teachers. She's become very comfortable seeking out help during office hours and knowing how to self advocate, which is a skill that will carry her far in college and in life. We are very happy with the experience.
