My experience has been good at Grissom High School. I have enjoyed many of the classes that I have taken. They have amazing theatre, choir, and band programs! I would like to see students in regular/non-honor classes be treated with more care and not be expected to preform poorly.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my four years at Grissom. I plan on majoring in nursing, and through the Health Science pathway, I have already experienced many clinical and lab techniques. The hands-on activities in the lab provided a small glimpse of what the nursing profession deals with and enabled me to feel more comfortable with my major selection. I would have loved the internship semester, but due to Covid we were not allowed to shadow at the hospitals. All of the AP classes that I have taken were challenging but also rewarding. I believe most of my teachers truly wanted to provide the best class experience possible and were willing to take the extra step to achieve that in the classroom.
Grissom, overall, offered me a wide variety of options to explore for potential college degrees and gave me the opportunity to experiment with what I did and did not like. That being said, I believe there are certain things at Grissom that could change. For example, I do not think Grissom should allow its students to attach political flags to their cars while on school property. Especially if the candidate is no longer the current president. I also think that they really need to fix the social environment of the school. I have personally heard a lot of racist comments and remarks and have seen virtual no backlash from the administration to try to correct it. I have also seen a lot of blatant homophobia and have personally experience it attending this school.
