As a parent, the draw is the IB program, not the facilities. This is not the “shiny penny” school, but has value beyond surface appearance. If your child is capable of meeting the challenge of this curriculum, this is the school for you. There is little drama tolerated here among the students or the families, a definite bonus; and the school is inclusive rather than exclusive is the best way. The current head of school is devoted, thoughtful, fair, and has the right frame of mind for all students to excel; a change from the previous administration, as mentioned in other reviews.

Vincentian Academy is a good high school. Located in the North Hills it has a good location and is close proximity to Ross Park Mall. The IB program is very good and helps students get prepared for college and the academics at VA tend to be good. Some of the teachers are better than other, and the administration does a good job. The sports at VA are exceptional, especially the girls basketball, baseball, and girls soccer. The diversity of the school is not very good, with most of the students being white upperclass.
School building itself is abysmal. Many teachers are good but the ones that aren't are not even remotely competent. Very hit or miss, although most are good. Overall academics are outstanding, if you're in the honors or IB classes. They do not understand how to downplay the academics for the non-honors classes, so they end up not learning anything and just barely ready for college. Do not go to Vincentian if you are not planning on taking the IB program; it is simply not worth the tuition or your time. Also they can be really weird with what they punish. We have kids who are outright a danger to other students that stayed until the administration finally was obligated to keep them off of school grounds, but one kid swan dives onto a cafeteria table and just instantly is expelled on the spot.
