My experience at Viewpoint High School was very positive overall. I had the opportunity to build close relationships with teachers which helped to make my education fitter to my learning style. They did a very good job accommodating my learning disabilities and gave me a fair chance compared to other students. Class size is pretty small and most teachers teach with the goal of getting students to learn and be engaged rather than just following the curriculum blindly. Often times I experienced having way too much work but it is a prep school. Students are generally nice but very elitest and the vibe is pretty competitive about college and grades. There is a lot of pressure from other students to be a straight-A student and take many ap classes. Food is very good from kitchens kitchen and there are many activities, clubs, and electives for students to participate in. Everyone seems to be very wealthy and you can definitely feel the privilege of the school. But overall I liked it.
VP has a beautiful campus & rigorous curriculum but kids are stunted socially & emotionally at this school. Legacy families & an old administration shackle amazing teachers from helping students love learning. They know all of the right buzz words to use, but VP's idea of service & character development is tokenized. They don't allow kids to be kids, but rather force them to conform to an ideal of perfectionism. It has been very sad to watch vibrant children have their light dimmed. Bullying is a major issue, w/ many families leaving the school for lack of an adequate response. This is especially true when the bully comes from a family with deep pockets. In some cases, the administration of the primary school expected the parents to just work it out amongst themselves. VP pays a lot of lip service to "community" & those who advocate for their kids, but when faced with problems they hide. It's really unfortunate because there are some great families and great teachers at the school.
I love the campus, and academics are pretty swell as well. Most teachers actually care about their students. Diversity can use some help but I appreciate the effort nonetheless to welcome all diverse ethnicity into one community. College prep is really helpful and they always accommodate time to students to meet about the college process. Workers and staff that walk around, for example, kitchen staff or security crew are some of the kindest people and are a true blessing to have around. Viewpoint overall is a great rounded college preparatory school that offers many varying opportunities to thrive in chosen area.
