Vermont Academy provided our children with an environment that supports self-discovery and self-reliance, self-advocacy and self-confidence with an entrepreneurial spirit. Our children grew and developed in ways that we could not have anticipated but definitely hoped for. There is an incredible focus on the whole child combined with excellent academics and athletics. There is a ski hill at the school with snowmaking equipment! There is rock climbing, wilderness and so much more. The pre-season Long Trail hike represents an incredible opportunity for growth. The faculty is extraordinary as are the administrators and coaches.

Vermont Academy was our son’s home away from home for 4 years. He loved the working/living environment and benefitted from its tight knit academic and social community. My son played a sport every season, many of which would not be available to him if he’d gone to our public high school, like mountain biking and skiing. He relied on the Learning Skills department for support when he began and by Senior year no longer needed it. Our son has developed good study habits and an understanding of the benefits of small class sizes and building relationships with his teachers. He gained a tremendous amount of independence and learned to live and share a bathroom with many other guys! It has stood him in good stead his freshman year of college. Dorm living and time management were old hat to him. Most importantly he made friends from across the country and around the world that he will keep for life.
Vermont Academy is a true vortex of total student development and learning. Students are motivated to be themselves and explore learning that aligns with their strengths. The balanced approach to educating the students and the ample opportunities to elevate extracurricular pursuits has been exceptionally impactful to our son and he has truly come to his own. His leadership skills are being honed and his academic and athletic prowess are being maximized. Thank you, thank you VA! Jacklyn O.
