I enjoyed Verdugo Hills High School. I felt the teachers were passionate about their subjects and enjoyed being with the students. The school staff worked very hard to encourage school spirit. Hate and prejudice were never tolerated at Verdugo, something which seemed to be prevalent in other high schools. The counselors for the high school and in the college center were always helpful and took the time to answer any questions. Something that seemed to be a reoccurring issue at the high school was a lack of resources. Our books were usually older and beaten up, the teachers seemed frustrated with not having the proper support from the school district, and school sports teams and other extracurriculars were often left with fundraisers as their only way to get new equipment or supplies. These issues aren't necessarily things I would have changed about the school, but changes that should have happened within the school district.

Going into this school I didn't have high hopes. My mother got a job in this little town called Tujunga, unwillingly I moved schools to Tujunga; however, this was such an amazing fresh start for myself. I have become to discover who I really am and what my likes and dislikes are through my experience in this high school. I was crucially bullied in my middle school and I expected that in this high school. Fast forward three years I have found my best friend and truly found myself through this journey in this high school. I have developed a maturity level that I did not think I would ever approach followed with a level of confidence. I appreciate that this school is formatted as a college's schedule with four courses in one semester and four different courses in another semester. This bell schedule has prepared me for college and inspired me to take college classes. Verdugo's schedule allowed me to be successful in my college courses while taking high school courses at the same time.
Currently, I am a junior enrolled in Verdugo Hills High school. I would say my experience with going to class, participating in events, and communicating with the staff is great so far! There is a lot of engagement by many of the staff and students as well, making the school feel like a comfortable place for me to be in.
