Verde Valley School has a very rich culture. There are many traditions that make the school unique, like Mud Pit, Clue Finding, and Fire Run. For newcomers, these traditions come as a shock but they eventually come to embrace the VVS way of life. I love the school's diversity in the student body, although faculty diversity is somewhat lacking. Academics wise, VVS is an IB school. So, the work load and curriculum for IB Diploma students is definitely challenging. Many of the school's facilities are very old, preserved from the old days, but this is somewhat limiting. I wish the school could modernize the dorms and add more sports facilities, like a pool and track and field, just to widen the variety of sports students can try. Nonetheless, my years in VVS was amazing. All the teachers are very caring and they you develop a different kind of closeness to them compared to normal high school. VVS is an amazing place for everyone! It is a model of the diverse world that we live in.

Verde Valley School is a special place. Alums of VVS never forget their experience, teachers, or friends. Alums of 70 years return annually for the reunion. At VVS, you learn more than academics. You learn about who you are as a person. You learn about the world and how to travel, connect with people of other cultures, stand up for what's right, and see the beauty in diversity. You also learn how to work hard. Not just in school but in your future career. VVS requires students to help with the maintenance of the school. There are no janitors. Everyone pitches in to help. As a student you dread it, but once you're out the real world and you see people your age who don't know how to sweep or lift a finger, and you can work efficiently, you realize the value of learning it from a young age. In this time of political uncertainty and when there is so much hate in the world, a place like VVS, where students, live, learn, play, and work with students from all over the world, is critical.
If you're looking for an amazing high school experience, look no further. Verde Valley School is a school that fosters compassion, creativity, critical thinking, and world citizenship. Absolutely beautiful location, kind and caring teachers, and some of the most wonderful students I've met.
