From Valley School of Ligonier

Valley School of Ligonier is a private K-9 day school nestled in the Laurel Highlands on 400 acres of pristine woodlands. It has 166 students, and a student-teacher ratio of 6 to 1. Tuition is $15,145 for all grades. Tuition assistance is available to qualifying families. After graduation, students matriculate to regional private and public schools and distant boarding schools.

Valley School was founded in 1946 on the premise that school should be a happy, nurturing, and child-centered place where students build academic skills, and—just as importantly—learn to become responsible, humane adults. Today, we continue to offer a holistic, inquiry-based education that emphasizes traditional values—academic ambition, empathy, integrity, and respect for self and others—alongside 21st century skills like intellectual curiosity, communication, collaboration, creativity, cross-cultural competence, diversity of experience, critical thinking, and positive global citizenship.

"The Heart of a School"

In 2019 Valley, School opened the doors of the Cathey Family Young Adult Center, a new section of the library curated to appeal especially to young adults. The Center features a fireplace, expanded book collection, flexible seating, and mobile work surfaces. It is a wonderful place that beckons students to slow down and spend mindful time enjoying one another's company and working together.

Valley School of Ligonier is truly one of a kind! It is not only a place where my children have been taught to read and write but where they have been nurtured in understanding the value of respect, responsibility, integrity, honor, and self-advocacy. You will be very hard press to find another school that will prepare your children socially, emotionally and physically. With that being said, it is a FUN place to go to school...not only for the students but for the parents as well! Each new year presents itself with new activities on and off-campus. Valley School is constantly allowing students to grow. We moved from Pittsburgh to the Laurel Highlands ten years ago to send our children to the Valley School, it was truly the best decision we have ever made.

Valley School has been a true gift for our family. Our children have transformed during their time at VSL. The school has high standards for students stemming from both its challenging curriculum, but more important the school’s focus on core values. Valley is built on helping students advance their educational strengths and foster a supportive community between educators, administrators, and families. The small class size, wooded campus and extra-curricular programs must be experienced to be appreciated.
Valley School of Ligonier is a gem in the Laurel Highlands. The campus is superb and offers an experience with nature including a trout project, stream exploration for science and a detailed eye for art projects. The class size and attention per student allows for a tailored experience to meet the child’s academic level while setting goals to always strive for more. In upper school, field trips and advisors help offer a steady hand in guiding a child through those middle school years. I could not be more pleased with the school, the administration and how our child has developed, grown and succeeded in the beauty of Valley School.
