My experience at Utica High School has been pretty good overall. At times I question some of the decisions made by some of the people in charge when it comes to policies and overall school management. But with that being said, I still enjoyed my high school career as a whole.
Overall my experience at my school has been good. I would like for more involvement with extracurricular activities from the administration; such as band, art, and choir. Also, I wish some of the staff was more involved with the students at times. The school is smaller than most in the area with has both positive and negative aspects. With a smaller school it is easier to be noticed and recognized for your accomplishments. On the flip side we are limited on what classes we can take, and activities we can partake in after school. I was able to participate in the CCP program which has helped me prepare for college, but I can't speak for those who didn't participate in the program. I would definitely like to see some improvements with the school and how it operates, but the school itself isn't the worst in the world.
Utica provided me with what I needed to be sent out into the world and face college. But I feel like they value sports over education sometimes. Like they hype up male sports teams and ignore female sports teams.
Uticas school district has raised me my entire life, which I appreciate a lot, but could i have gotten a better education somewhere else? More then likely. It is not any of their faults, but we just have a very small district; which means limited classes, sports, activities, and diversity. I would say that I have gotten plenty ready for college through the advanced and CCP programs, but a lot of the other students don't take classes like that so I really can't say the same for them.
My experience at Utica High School was average at best. The material taught in class was average, however test scores for the entire school showed most students were not performing at a C level compared to the rest of the county. Most of the school focus was on the sports, and the other extra-curriculars (music, art, band, etc.) were neglected. The administration needs to be replaced, and the high school guidance counselor failed numerous students, including me, in my graduating class. I would like to see the overall quality of the school improved, and more should be done to prepare students for the rest of their academic careers
Utica High School, being in a small village, has a very close-knit community, which you really appreciate when a tragedy or a great opportunity arises among the students. You know your school will show support towards whatever comes to someone when they need that support.
I would like to see more interest in developing individual learning plans for students. Also to see more availability of home economics.
Its was not as bad as it could have been. There were a lot of opportunities for students to go to school and college
The teachers are really helpful, can be laid back at times, and are really easy to talk to. Utica High School makes learning enjoyable. In my opinion its the best school I have been to.
I liked that the school was small enough so that I knew almost everyone in my class. I did enjoy a most of my classes and most of my teachers were very good and helpful. However, there are some teachers that are so young that they just want to be friends with the students and like to socialize instead of teaching the subject.
As part of 2018's graduating class, I've seen a lot of change being undertaken by my alma mater - not all of it good. However, the integrity and the respectability with which my generation undertakes everything it does in truly honorable and wonderful. Utica's kids are good-hearted and with the best intentions, and it boasts many excellent-rated teachers. Though they leave the seniors behind on the times with outdated tech, and their art department's underfunded, they still fight to rile a sense of spirit and community in its kids.
Utica has many good qualities like the building its self is newer with a nice gym but what makes the school are the people inside of it. Utica's administration is some of the worst. The principal is not working at the school for the benefit of the kids. Parents and students alike will tell you how awful he is as not only a principal but as a person. No one comes to the administration when they have a problem because the principal does nothing but talk down to his students and ignore problems. If the administration was fixed then Utica would be a much better school. They have some really great teachers who actually care about the students and are good at their jobs, the academics are challenging even for some of the greatest students.
Utica high school had a huge impact on my life and made me who the person I am today and it's good teachers good environment
Great teachers, however there were few AP classes to choose from. When I begs my junior year there were no English AP classes and I was really disappointed
I love Utica High School. The teachers are very nice and I participate in band, choir and drama club. All of these programs were very well organized.
The things I liked about Utica high school was that the classrooms were small with around 20 people in each. I also liked that we were given school iPads so it was easier to keep on track for school.
I feel that my school has potential but the administration doesn't want to make an effort to create change. The world is constantly changing so the people have to as well in order for things to run smoothly. The administration won't change rules that have been in place for 50 years. The world has changed a lot since the 1900s and it is pointless to try and keep the rules for things that don't apply any more.
