Not very diverse, which can feel kind of daunting and isolating at times. However, the majority of the faculty were very kind and helpful. I only met like five that were rude to everyone everyday for no apparent reason.
I met lifelong friends, learned more than I could have imagined, and feel prepared to take on the world of college and university. I may not know exactly what career is best for me, but I know that Urbandale High School allowed me the freedom to discover what I want to be.
I have had an amazing experience as a student at Urbandale High School. The teachers and staff are caring and welcoming. There is a variety of opportunities, clubs, and classes to participate. Mostly everyone is accepting and there is no lack of school spirit.
This year has been a difficult year due to Covid-19 and being in a hybrid learning model most of the year. The school district has done a good job reaching out to students and providing technology to allow for continued learning but on the days we are not in school, we have no instruction with teachers which has made it difficult for some students. Overall, this is a good school district with good education/academics.
I loved being a student at Urbandale High School. The teachers and staff are so caring and kind. The students are as well. The only thing I think Urbandale could improve on is diversity. This isn't really something the school can fix. They can add more diverse teachers but they can't change the students. The sports teams are very fun to be apart of. Also, they excel at the arts. This is probably due to the effort that goes into them. Many schools fund sports much more than they fund the arts. This cannot be said about Urbandale. They fund the arts very well and due to this many students have gone on to have careers in the arts.
It was a very good experience going through highschool at Urbandale. All if not most, of the teachers and staff care about your safety and well being.
Urbandale never enforces rules and regulations put up at the school. They also mess up people’s schedules over and over again. And like any other school we need better mental health programs for teens. And definitely better security.
I have attended Urbandale High School part time since my junior year (last year). It has been a wonderful experience, and I have absolutely loved almost all of my teachers and classes!!!
Urbandale High School is an okay school but the a lot of the staff sucks. No diversity - all the teachers are white except the Japanese teacher and one of the Spanish teachers. Also administration sucks.
What can I say? This school is more about looking good than teaching students. Millions of dollars were spend on contruction for a weight room that nobody wanted or asked for. Their are sculptures outside but the art department is under funded. Japanese exchange students are made to feel stupid and lesser than us by forcing them to take classes way below their level. The lunch as this school is also horrendous.
I love the opportunities at Urbandale High School. We have the opportunity to take college level classes and compete at 4A level. I love how inclusive it is as well, and how everyone gets a chance and opportunity to grow and succeed. I would like to see this never be limited. It is not limited, for the most part, but this could always keep improving.
Urbandale high school gave a depiction of high school and how it does not look like at all that is on TV. Of course, there has been instead of where I am like how are we all not on a sitcom. But I am glad I got my high school experience here because it set me up to be a somewhat functioning adult. If I could give the advice to make the school better for incoming students I would just say that have everyone take classes like business, food and nutrition, computers, health, and Government. Which there of those classes are requirements but two important ones that will help you the most in life are not and those of foods and nutrients, and business. Schools should better prepare kids for adulthood by teaching them things like how to cook for yourself, and how to file taxes.
I enjoyed my time as a student there! I got along with all of my teachers, and I'm still friends with them after I graduated.
My experience at Urbandale High School has been very good. The teachers care for you and help you through the class. In addition it is a very energetic school to boost the student morale. The classes are helpful and the teachers exceed learning expectation so the students get the most out of every class. In addition the diversity throughout the school is excellent and the teachers prepare us for college the best that they can.
I love the music program at Urbandale. That is easily the best thing about this school. The academics are relatively good, as there is a wide variety of AP and advanced courses to take.
I liked the smaller environment, that wasn't as big as Valley or Waukee. I really enjoyed the choir department and all three of the directors. I definitely would try to change the way the schedule is and try to implement more classes that would prepare us for our future.
I love going here to Urbandale. The musical program this school has and the teachers who work in it, are PHENOMENAL. I highly recommend going here if you want to learn about music.
