There are many kind and caring people at Urbana. It is easy to make friends, even with the teachers. Mental health is an important thing to everyone and the school does a well job of providing resources to people who need them. We are all online right now, but my teachers are doing a very well job connecting with us. Yet, my teachers do not do a good job of enforcing disciplinary action. Fights are happening constantly and when they do, action is not taken quick enough. I once had to clean off blood from my binder, chair, and desk because unfortunately two of my peers decided to fight right behind me. Most students don't see the teachers as a higher authority. Hence, they can't control their pupils. Another quite unpleasant thing about the school is the cleanliness, or lack there of. The bathroom, gym, and hallways are filthy. Overall, I have had pretty decent experience at Urbana, setting aside all the fights and odors, I've made many friends that I think will last a lifetime.
There is a really good community at UHS, especially in the preforming arts social circles. Being in marching band is one of the best parts of my school experience there. Everyone is so welcoming and inclusive. Though the homework can be stressful sometimes the community and the friends you make there make things easier. They offer a lot of AP classes and have good teachers who care about their students futures. They offer some college course though it would be nice if they offered more. All in all it’s a pretty good school and the community is really great.
I do like Urbana High school. It’s has quite a bit of cliques but not too bad and you’ll find someone. You have a really broad choice of classes you can take. We have really good teachers and also really bad teachers. The higher English classes are pretty stressful and almost have nothing to do with learning English it seems, more social studies based. Which isn’t bad just wish it had a little bit more English involved. The school is overall pretty average. Just keep to yourself and try not to pick“battles” you have no business being in. Drama is pretty rampant but that’s in all high schools.
