Urbana High School is a great school with fantastic academics. The environment can feel pretty cutthroat at times, however, with many high achieving students competing against each other for the best GPA, college acceptances, etc. The teachers do an excellent job of teaching their classes and prepare students well for college. There are plenty of AP classes to choose from and earn college credit, with the passing rate on the AP tests being extremely high at the school. There is also an IB program offered for students who want to earn college credit that way. The sports teams are pretty average, but there is plenty of school spirit and game attendance. Low diversity (mostly Asians and Whites), but I never felt that others were excluded due to their race. Overall a very good school. Go Hawks!
My experience at Urbana High School has been great. I came across many teachers who genuinely cared about their students and wanted them to succeed. My counselor has also always been helpful when it came to choosing what classes to take throughout the school year. Once senior year rolled around my counselor and many of my other teachers were supportive of what colleges I decided to enroll in. I learned not only academic lessons from my teachers, but also a variety of helpful real life lessons. Although the school is predominately white, they strive to be inclusive of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Urbana High School provides many clubs and programs that can help students gain experience for the future. I will definitely miss the supportive teachers I came across and the opportunities that were laid out for me along the way!
Overall Urbana is a very good high school! Most of the teachers are great but just like every other school, there are also some not-so-great ones. There are so many different sports, clubs, etc. to choose from and mostly everyone can find a place to fit in. In my experience most students are friendly and kind, but again, there's always going to be people who aren't the best. If you just find your people you'll be fine!
