Urban School of San Francisco Reviews
Rating 4.42 out of 5 59 reviews
Urban teaches you what it means to interact thoughtfully with the Bay area and the world! The resources at Urban (trips, community engagement, teachers, clubs, etcetera) empower students to take charge and become leaders. Most importantly, Urban teachers teach you how to think, not what to think.
Note: Urban also lets students interview teachers, be on the board of trustees, help with strategic planning, etcetera! There is a huge amount of trust between the students and administration that further empower students to find their place in the world and make a tangible impact!

The academics and arts are amazing. Urban will prepare you for college and let you mold your own curriculum. I am fortunate to go to a school where I can immerse myself into what I am passionate about. The teachers genuinely care about the subjects they are teaching and their students, however, students never really seem to "find their people." The kids at Urban are cliquey like any other high school, but there is no room for anyone to make lasting, authentic connections because such a large chunk of kids came from a single feeder school. Everyone feels stuck in their middle school crowds. You either have friends that talk about you behind your back, or you don't have any at all.
I am currently a freshman at Urban School and I love it. Even though it is all online right now, they have done a wonderful job making us feel a part of the community. The teachers and administration are great at what they do, and they make us feel accepted and give us the support we need.
They have a huge focus on diversity, with affinity spaces for people of all backgrounds. We have a month of understanding every year with panels from the affinity spaces and outside speakers that help us understand the experiences of others. When I was applying to Urban they had a diversity night where leaders of every affinity space spoke about their experiences at Urban, especially as POC, and none of them had anything bad to say about it.
The classes are challenging but not horrible. They teach us time-management skills and HOW to learn rather than WHAT to learn. I came from a public K-8 and Urban did a wonderful job of easing me into their academics and social scene. I am very happy here :)
