For the number of students that attend the middle school there are many varied extracurricular options depending on one's interests. Leo Club is affiliated with the local Lions Club and gives students an opportunity to become a good citizen and improve their community. The school has its own newspaper journal, daily announcements and yearbook clubs. School plays/musicals allow for students to perform or support the production behind the scenes artistically and technologically. The athletic program provides many sports for both girls and boys throughout the year and recognizes participation and achievement. Band, orchestra and chorus allow musical outlets for novice and experienced students. Even the academic teams give extracurricular opportunities to actively participate on a small or large scale for every student.

Teachers are very supportive of the students and create a family atmosphere where everyone is respected and included. The school spirit is phenomenal amongst the teaching staff and their excitement and participation in school events raise the students up. Most teachers have been in the district for several years and really get to know the students and their families. Direct communication is easy through email and the Skyward system allows for up to date access to grades and teacher comments on your student's work and test scores.
There are regular drills (announced and unannounced) for the students and staff to learn what to do and where to go in emergencies. Due to external police activity we have had some real lockdown situations and use of the electronic alert system was necessary and functional. The local police are involved and regularly patrol the school grounds and perimeter neighborhoods. D.A.R.E. is a mandatory graded program that all students take to increase their knowledge of threats to their safety and wellbeing.
