From University School

University School is a place where each boy is inspired and empowered to let his true self thrive. With the freedom to explore, create, compete and play, boys of all dispositions build on their personal strengths, harness their natural talents and blaze their own paths to excellence with joy, confidence and integrity.

Students love learning concepts via themes and engage in hands- on projects to demonstrate systems thinking. Integrated and experiential, this approach successfully prepares them for an ever-changing world that requires creative problem solving, an action- orientation, articulate explanation, and the ability to anticipate the broader societal impact.

Our faculty and staff inspire and mentor our students with integrity and compassion. Boys develop both empathy and respect for others, and appreciation of self. Together, we build an inclusive community with an evolved understanding of what it means to be a man in the 21st century.

I have attended University School since I was in Kindergarten and now find myself in my Senior year. I have seen the school evolve and thrive under our former Headmaster Steve Murray. Diversity has improved dramatically from my early years.

Under the current administration, socioeconomic diversity remains an opportunity but the school is very much aware of its need to continue its focus there. The values of the school, “Responsibility, Loyalty and Consideration” are applied more consistently than at any time during my attendance . And, the connection to the community is stronger than its ever been. I am proud to be a student there.

I find the school committed to getting to know me as a person and teaching me as I learn rather than applying a cookie cutter approach to education. The school remains committed to erudition and I have received a great education.

I could not imagine a better school for my son! This is truly a school where the faculty and staff cares about EVERY boy. Not just the star students who frankly could and would do well at any school in the area. Where US stands apart is the B or C students. The faculty and staff pour their hearts and souls into these "middle of the pack" and even "high potential/under-performing" boys. My son has gone through an amazing transformation at this school. He likely would have been lost at a public or another private school.
It took a leap of faith for me to join US from a public school. I'm consistently surprised by how welcoming the community is and the levels at which the students and faculty are performing. Students are competing and achieving on the national level in robotics, debate, rocketry, the arts, sciences and more. For a small school, the athletic teams are unusually successful.
