University High School is really amazing! I am a Freshman, and I have really enjoyed my first year here. Students have lots of spirit, and we are proud to be who we are. Our curriculum is top-notch, and taught by teachers that really do care about students. Almost all teachers are available at any time of day, to assist students that have questions. Of course, you can not talk about UHS without discussing our stellar music department. With several practice rooms, several large ensemble rehearsal rooms, a fully equipped recording studio, and 4 years of musicianship and performing groups classes, students are able to submerge themselves into a deeper level of musical thinking and performance. There is nowhere I would rather be than UHS.
This school is only for those who care deeply about academic success to the point where they are willing to sacrifice parts of their life during highschool to studying and academics. The school has awesome college admission rates though and it looks great on college resume. For reference, you will have ALL ap and college courses at Fresno State University by your junior year. You will be taking college courses at Sophomore year. Do not come here if you want an easy and fun higschool life. This school is extremely rigorous and hard, almost to the point where its unreasonable. It definitely prioritizes academics over mental health. You will have nights where you have a concert until 8 and have to stay up until 3 am studying for an exam the next day and have to wake up at 6 for school the next morning. You will 100% have moments at this school where you regret having come because you have 5 tests in the same week and 3 hours of homework due the next day. Also there is no sports at all.
I'm a senior and for the past 4 years, I have loved every teacher at UHS, they are all passionate about teaching and have had a strong education. Since UHS is on Fresno State's Campus, we have opportunities to take any college coures we would like and experience college life beginning Sophomore year. All the students are friendly and welcoming, I believe everyone strives to be Understanding Honorable and Studious! UHS's athletic teams, have grown alot since my freshman year. Academics is what we do best! The workload seems like alot, but if you follow
the routine and not procrastinate, it's easy to do! My favorite thing this school has, is the faculty. Everyone knows you by your Junior year and your Councilors are there for you since freshman year. Overall, we are like a big family and every class takes care of eachother.
