University High School Academy is a college prep school, meaning we have to test to get into the school. The one thing I love about University is how small our school is, we only have about 500 students. Having such a small school makes it seem as if we're all family, the teachers, and staff really know and care for each and every one of the students. However, I hate the fact that we get treated like crap! Our school has no air conditioning, and temperatures reach 90+ degrees outside, it's evident that there are "favorite" classes, and the students are always last to know things.

Small school, focused entirely on academics. Great teachers that will help students while teaching them responsibility and importance of doing school work done on time. Some classes are integrated between different grades. Wonderful principal. High college acceptance rates. Ranked number 25 in US News Best High Schools in Michigan. Only downfall about this school is that for sports, students will have to participate at the other city high school since University High School Academy doesn't have any sport teams.
I've been a student at University High School Academy for four years. One of my favorite things about the school is the college readiness. I feel like the "U" has really prepared me for the college life I'm about to live for the next few years. The habits created by the rules enforced at University will be carried over, things such as: using a planner, studying longer as the level of difficulty of the classes increase, getting rest and sleep before important tests, as well as test- taking tips. The staff at UHSA was also very supportive and helpful, making the school experience feel like a family and a community. Throughout all of my years of attending UHSA, there wasn't much I didn't like or would have wanted to see change. With that being said, the only thing I would actually change is the amount of clubs the school offered. I feel like we didn't have many programs or clubs that I could actually enjoy, which also relates to another change: the amount of freedom we had.
