This school is amazing. Great academics, teachers are wonderful, administrators are caring and supportive of the students. This school is very diverse due to students coming from 21 districts within the county. There are no sports-students must go back to their home district for those, however, there are many clubs, Honor Society and philanthropic opportunities. Students get the opportunity to follow future career paths while excelling in academics. Seniors in UC Tech and Academy for Performing Arts get dual enrolled at Kean University and get to spend their senior year experiencing college and gaining college credits. My daughter is so happy here!
UC Tech is a great school for those looking for a challenge as well as a school with various opportunities for students. Most if not all of the academies here offer some sort of outside program. For example, I'm in the Sustainable Sciences academy, and all of the students in this academy are automatically members of FFA. Additionally, Sustainable Sciences students spend the entirety of their senior year taking college classes at Kean University, allowing us to experience firsthand what it's like to be a college student. The only major issue I have with my school is that there's a definite lack of communication between the school and parents as well as the school and students in regards to major events. For example, UC Tech students were never alerted to changes in the schedule during the virtual/hybrid environment; only parents received an email, and there was a lot of confusion regarding the subject. Overall, UC Tech is a great school, and I highly recommend applying to go here!
As a recent Alumni of the class of 2020, I can say that my experience at UCVTS was amazing. Not only are their academics amazing but their career-focused programs provide excellent opportunities for students. I was a member of UC Tech where I attended Kean University for free for one year, allowing me to graduate high school with 32 college credits. I feel that the professionalism mixed with the engagement levels of their staff created a nurturing environment for all students to learn in a positive manner. The only downfall of the school is that there are no sports but students can join the sports teams at their hometown high schools. This high school is tough to get into but is such a great experience. It is open for application for any student in Union County and provides free transportation. Overall, I would recommend this high school to all parents for their children!
