Tyrone is a great example of a school that fails its students. From around 8th grade onward- students of poverty are told their only/best choice of a future is technical school. These people are then bussed away in high school to GACTC to learn apart from their peers. As a student, it honestly feels like discrimination. I’d like to see the faculty try to provide these students a variety of options- as opposed to shoving them into a hands on job and assuming they want to be there. There is ZERO focus on college prep or any counseling unless you work very hard to reach out to counselors. Even then, their advice is limited and usually not good. Everyday I sit in class and feel myself losing opportunities. Any success I will have in the college apps process will come from things I have researched on the internet and my parents. The SAT course provided is meager- students learn with IXL (some of the topics they must learn aren’t even tested on the SAT).
-robbed of a good education.

Tyrone area high school was a school full of a 50/50 ratio of teachers and faculty members that take sexual harassments and bulling seriously . leaving to a school of 'off-limits' sections if you don't want to be a victim . leaving to some very difficult learning so most of the students . some teachers having more pole than others . So it doesn't matter if you did good or not if they didn't like you . you weren't getting a good grade. Other teachers couldn't do anything. Suck it up buttercup and try being liked by the monster teachers if you wish to pass the class.
Tyrone could stand to see quite a few improvements, but for the most part, I've enjoyed my high school experience.
I graduated from here and I work here. Both of our children go to this school. I love everything about it.
All the teachers are very student focused. Only thing I would like to see changed is better lunch options, on top of the cafe we already have.
The Tyrone Area High School has a welcoming and family atmosphere. The teaching staff is always trying to better their teaching and help their students as much as needed. Having a variety of activities for students to take part in is very important to this school district. The community and students are very supportive and involved when it comes to sports. I personally had a very positive experience at Tyrone Area High School by being involved in clubs such as HOSA and National Honors Society. If anything could be improved, it would probably be the appearance of the school itself. Some classrooms and designs are outdated and could be changed.
Tyrone Area High School has a very friendly environment. They try to do everything in their power to stop bullying from occurring in the school. The school is also kept very clean and makes everyone feel safe. The employed staff is always willing to help out. However some teachers take forever to grade work sheets.
Tyrone is a great community. We are a small town and everybody knows everybody. Tyrone High School has great teachers and administration that care about their students a go above and beyond to see that students are getting educated in all areas of life not just academics.
I liked how the easy you were able to talk to the teachers and they listened to what you had to say. The education there is really good especially the English department. The teachers care about the students and how they do. I don't think that I would have rather gone anywhere else than at Tyrone.
The extracurricular activities always have adult help for them. The activities always fund-raise for what they need, and always accomplish what the want to get done. Everyone has fun and there is always a group for someone to join.
If I had to chose to go through high school all over again I'm not sure if I would come back to Tyrone. Yes, I had a great time at this school, but I I could chose I might attend a different school I may just to see a different experience.
The teachers keep their teaching styles the same and don't usually change their ways. They always know what they are teaching and are always there to help the students. The have test graded on time and always reach out to students when they need help.
There are somethings that could be changed but for the most part it is good. Most days I feel safe being at school and there are other days that scare me because a school around us has been threatened. However that has not happened very much which I am grateful for. We do have an armed security guard that used to be part of the police until he wanted to help children instead of arresting them.
This school is a good school despite its differences but the experiences that I have had here are amazing. I have learned some life lessons and skills. Also, I have made some very good friends through sports and not. Everyone seems to try to do good in school and I like going here.
The teachers help students and are encouraging towards them. They are available when and if you need help and they are not afraid to take the time to explain it to us. I feel as though their quality of teaching is very good. Some of their teaching styles are different but effective. In my statistics class our teacher teaches us the lesson one day and then give us a work day the next day that way we can ask questions and get help if we need it. She is there throughout the day if we need to go ask her questions or get help. Others teachers are similar in the way that they teach. It helps us because they are there if we need their help. As for their consistency in grading, I would say that it is fairly consistent and fair. They seem to keep it fair. I enjoy having the teachers at my school.
Metal detectors are used on occasion. Threats are not tolerated. Bullying still happens regardless of policies in place. State Police inspect the busses randomly twice a year. The school nurse knows all of the students.
I love the devotion to the Arts. I personally love POPS Extension, Spring Musicals and Vocal Concerts. Mrs. Harris is very dedicated to her students. The administration helps to support what the students love.
