Turpin High School Reviews
Rating 4.04 out of 5 303 reviews
Honestly, Turpin is an amazing school. There may be some things that I dislike, but overall, it’s great. The academic rigor may seem intense, however there are often times 3 levels of each class. With the opportunity to move down a level, students are able to learn at a pace they’re comfortable with. The staff is mainly pretty good! They care about mental health and will reach out to their students if they’re concerned. They’re also very dedicated to making sure the students succeed. After the death of students in the past, the school has been mental health a priority, which is amazing. Therapy dogs come during lunch occasionally and there’s resources available for every student. The counselors do seem a little strained with only four of them compared to the amount of students though. Overall, Turpin is a great school with staff that truly cares for their students, plentiful programs and resources, and countless opportunities for success later in life.
I would say my first year or so at Turpin was very rough. It had me questioning wether or not I should transfer out. It eventually got better for me going into sophomore year and I was finally able to recognize how great of a school Turpin really is. Academically, Turpin is outstanding. I've never had any major issues with teachers and poor quality of teaching. Everyone wants you to get better and pushes you to get there. The student life I would honestly say isn't amazing. People are friendly and I've had no issue making friends and being part of things but generally speaking people with the community we live in I've noticed and picked up on a lot of wrong doing amongst the students. With constant changes being put into place it has been a struggle to adapt but going into senior year I can confidently say I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
I went in being the first group of freshmen to ever get into the Wind Ensemble first year. I've been a part of the Wind Ensemble, Full Orchestra, and Marching Band all four years that I've been at Turpin. The overall camaraderie and support that Turpin students and Faculty have offered me made my four years really exciting whether it was going to BoA to participating at a national event, or going down to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras festival and experiencing the Jazz first hand. I hope that Turpin Hills continues to grow and adds more funding to the classes to provide more freedom to the curriculum. It is awesome to see that they are adding outdoor classrooms that can be used, I just wish more of my classes could take the opportunity to actually use them. Being in a STEM-heavy schedule alongside a plethora of afterschool activities made it hard for me to truly explore during my high school career, but I was certainly able to have some freedom with Digital Imaging.
