My three children attended Tulsa Adventist Academy in various grades and had mostly positive experiences. The teachers were attentive, caring, and qualified, and the school was actively involved in local church activities and community service. All were ready for college and one is now in medical school; one is a histologist; and one is still in college. All of their Adventist education experiences have been helpful to their personal maturation, worldview, and authenticity. No school or teacher is perfect but each child was taught to think and question for themselves, and that is very important for their adult lives!
I went to Tulsa Adventist Academy for 6 years and the first 3 years were alright. But as you get into the upper grades, it gets worse. The school claims to have a no bullying tolerance yet does nothing about the kids bullying others, certain teachers are awful and rude and very unhelpful, the homophobia, racism, antisemitism, etc. runs rampant there with staff and teachers not only doing nothing about it, but even supporting it in most cases. It is a great school if you think that people shouldn't be raped because it says so in the Bible and that if they are raped, they should be forced to keep the baby. It's a great school if you think that all gays are stupid and that they are less than and can be walked over and treated like trash. It's a great school if you think that mental health is a conspiracy and that people who commit suicide are just overdramatic and want attention. It is a great school for close-minded individuals who don't care about anyone but themselves. Don't recommend.
I attended Tulsa Adventist Academy for 10 years, being told it was giving me “excellent education better than public school.” Upon transferring to a public school my junior year, I was very behind and not confident in my academic skills, specifically math and science. Sports are limited to basketball, and acro/gymnastics & classes are chosen for you every year. This school is truly not fitting to serve high schoolers; doing next to nothing for preparedness in higher level education. My family payed full tuition to the school for me and my siblings, yet they didn’t offer AP Classes, variety of sports, SLC, club opportunities, or a guidance counselor. The main reason for all of these things is because the school is so small and it is privately funded. Elementary is up to 3 grades per classroom with no special culture/language programs for the kids who can’t speak English and are trying to learn among fluent peers. However, the teachers do care, but can only do so much.
