Being an alumni from Tucson Magnet High School really shaped the person I am today which greatly influenced what I wanted to do after graduation. I am currently in my third year at the University of Arizona majoring in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science. I was introduced into this field by my Biotechnology teacher, Dr. Wilch who pushed me to join a lab in the department of Neuroscience under Dr. Gronenberg who helped a peer and I create an experiment that involved observing the proboscis extension reflex (PER) in Novomessor cockerelli to determine ability to learn. Ever since then I was immediately drawn to the field. But one thing that I would change about the high school is to have more funding and attention in the STEM clubs/classes. Students work tremendously hard in these courses and should be given the resources that they deserve to continue on and pursuing it academically.

Tucson Magnet High School is the place to be when looking for a fun school with school spirit, all the social classes of each grade, the overall movie made school you could imagine. The only downside this high school might have is the academics, the teachers are amazing but they’re put on such a cap as to where they can go with their studies due to lack of money for school funding. No worries, the teachers will go above and beyond to do what they can in order to make sure students understand!
I feel that THMS is an excellent school with a diverse student body and staff. The school offers excellent rediness programs, fine arts and science programs, education is first Tucson High. However, the school does lack student to techer ratios. A classroom can have up 38 students to a class room making difficult for both the students and teachers. At Tucson High students must be the ones who control whether or not they recieve good education.
