Townsend Harris High School Reviews
Rating 4.21 out of 5 694 reviews
I'm a sophomore at Townsend Harris, and my experience has been great! I really like that every year there are some school "holidays" that are special to our school only! The school was quite challenging academically since it required me to change my studying habits (I used to procrastinate a lot). The classes were nice. You could choose if you wanted to choose AP classes. But during freshman year you get automatically put into Pre-AP World History. Then in sophomore year, it's required to take AP World History. The students, teachers, and staff are all friendly! There are so many extracurriculars too, so if you're looking to do stuff in your free time there are a lot of options. The sports department is great too because of the variety. There's basketball, soccer, table tennis, badminton, handball, swimming, and many more!
Townsend Harris, albeit deserving of its rigorous reputation, is a highly rewarding school. It doesn't just focus on academics, but rather producing well-rounded students in all aspects: while focusing on my studies, I've also found myself increasingly interested in extra-curriculars like their traditional S!NG production and their Tech Crew, as well as clubs like the ASL Club and Latin League. The school forces you to challenge yourself by tackling a classical and a modern language, a minimum required amount of years in core subjects, and their bridge program with Queens College, and while these challenges can feel extremely daunting in their present moments, their outcomes are beyond helpful. The bridge program allows me to become better prepared for college, all the while their multitude of AP classes offered and different programs allows me to become sufficient in languages, mathematics, sciences, and more. The school has left an extremely positive impact on students like myself.
Townsend Harris High School in Queens, New York, is highly regarded for its academic excellence, diverse community, and expert faculty. It provides students with a rigorous curriculum that prepares them exceptionally well for college and beyond. The school's commitment to diversity and inclusion fosters a rich, global perspective among its students. Furthermore, the location of the school in Flushing, Queens, offers unique cultural and intellectual opportunities. However, some areas for improvement could be considered, such as revisiting the admissions process for greater equity, addressing stress and workload issues, expanding extracurricular options, enhancing technology integration, and bolstering social and emotional support systems for students.
