My experience with Torrey Pines was really quite wonderful. I started attending Torrey Pines during COVID which I'm sure detracted from the experience and still have good things to say. Their math department is awesome! I was able to take linear algebra and a project based course in Mathematica both taught by an excellent teacher. Both for SDSU credit I might add. They have a lot of extracurricular opportunities as well. Their sports program is strong as well the coaches are excellent.
Growing up in a predominantly white and wealthy community it definitely took me some time to fit in the crowd at school. As much as I'd like to say the school never failed to make me feel satisfied with being myself on campus I believe the school could work on the inclusion of minority students such as myself. Although I can confidently say the academics, the professors and sports are amazing, I believe the school should definitely consider providing those who are not provided with the resources some more guidance, I think with doing so the Torrey Pines High School would equally allow every student with an amazing high school experience as well as a higher probability for success.
I love this school! I'm a junior at TPHS right now and so far, I've had a great experience. Nearly all of the teachers are great-- I've only had one bad experience with a teacher and they were a long-term sub. The rotating block schedule works well for most people-- you have two days to spread your homework out over or you could just do it all in one day if you want. There are also a *lot* of clubs-- around 150. The students here are focused and generally pretty nice to one another. Although TP has a pretty big focus on sports, the "jocks" here are usually not too bad. I haven't noticed too much of a clique problem here either. The counselors here are great too and it's worth it to get to know yours. We also have a new Performing Arts Center, so if you're into theatre, music, or drama production, this might be the school for you.
