Thomaston High School Reviews
Rating 3.53 out of 5 76 reviews
I've attended Thomaston public schools for my entire life, and there is a lot to love about them. The schools are quite small, which creates a tightly-knit environment where everyone knows one another. This small environment has both positive aspects as well as negative. Knowing everyone means that you have constant support from those around you, and you always have someone to turn to. It also means, however, that rumors spread quickly, and bad situations can escalate at a moment's notice. As far as the teachers go, my school has some of the best. I've had the priveleage of being taught by brilliant people who actually care about how I'm doing, which is more than kids from other schools can say. Our sports programs are amazing, and so is our school counseling. One of the main areas where Thomaston falls short is that we seriously lack diversity, which results in racially sheltered kids who know little to nothing about other races.
Thomaston is a very good school, I did previously go to another school so my only concern which I have brought to the whole schools attention during an assembly that we are not well enough prepared for threats outside of the school or if there is a threat inside the school. My old school did training and drills to be safe and prepared. I told them we did A.L.I.C.E and some other ones. The teachers are great. The coaches are awesome and everyone there really cares about you and how you are doing in and out of school.
One of the stronger qualities about Thomaston lies on a double edged sword. It has a student-teacher ratio of around 13-1. The class size of my year (2019) is only around 60 people. This means two things. One, you know everyone. This provides a lot of opportunities to get very close to teachers and your peers. Two, teachers are much more capable to help individual students with individual situations. One develops a friendship level relationship with many of the teachers. Overall if a teacher teaches at Thomaston, they do it because they love teaching. Trust me when I say it shows, that the people educating you do what they are doing because they love doing it.
In summary, if you want a decent education in a closely knit classroom where you know and are comfortable around everyone, Thomaston would work for you. If you are looking for Taft level education with a huge pool of people where you find yourself finding new friends every month, then Thomaston would not work for you.
