One of the best decisions we have made for our children's education is sending them to Thomas MacLaren Charter School. The curriculum, though rigorous, is preparing my children, not only for college, but a lifetime of knowledge and character. This school offers every student a well-rounded liberal arts ecucation challenging each student to do their best and be their best. Thank you Thomas MacLaren!
I was here for Elementary school, middle school, and the beginning of high school. In elementary stuff is fine, middle school you get at the very least 2 hours of hw a night, usually not including studying, you can't choose your own classes, classes are separated by two genders, there have been multiple racist teachers who I've reported to the deans and principle, but they won't do anything about it. The only good thing I took away is that since you were just with your grade and had no mixture of other students, you all become very close. There weren't too bad of threats to our safety, but there have been so many fires, they're all small and easy to deal with, but usually it's students setting fires in the bathrooms. I've been there to see multiple students faint from heat exhaustion, and the faculty usually either doesn't do anything, or pokes the kid until they get up. There's so much other stuff- but this can't be too long. You make great connections, but get so mentally exhausted
Overall, MacLaren was an amazing experience, and I would absolutely recommend it for most people. The school's guiding principles are fantastic, and are implemented well in most scenarios. I believe the liberal arts curriculum and overall structure at MacLaren has significantly helped my college experience and have overall made me a better human. Of course it isn't perfect, there are many things they didn't handle well, both in small personal instances and overall structure of the system, but as far as a high school experience can be it was fantastic.
