Students are competitive, and the options for extracurricular activities are very wide for such a small community. The teachers provide a very welcoming environment while helping students reach college readiness. Music and the arts are very high-level and students love to get committed to them. Students here love the annual high school trip, attending sports games, and participating in the musical. The community is the perfect size to be able to have school-wide events such as barbecues and the all-school picnic.

Thomas Jefferson has a wonderful and tight-knit school community. Its rigorous coursework does effectively prepare students for college courses. Additionally, its small class sizes and dedicated teachers provide a very personal educational experience. The teachers really do want their students to succeed. However, the school does have a few issues or areas in which to improve. The extensive coursework can be very stressful and the small class sizes can create a hyper-competitive atmosphere. Thomas Jefferson focuses on AP courses which do not necessarily provide college credit depending on the institution of your choosing. I believe it would be more beneficial if they offered dual credit courses which could more likely guarantee college credit. Finally, it can be very expensive although they do provide merit-based scholarships. Despite these factors, I highly enjoyed my experience as a student at Thomas Jefferson.
Somethings I like about Thomas Jefferson is the tight knit community. As a school, we are always for ways to raise money to help other people or to give scholarships to incoming students. The academics at Thomas Jefferson are phenomenal because the teachers are always in the building one hour after school is dismissed so students can get help on their studies. Along with the rigorous academics, Thomas Jefferson takes pride in their extracurricular activities such as band, choir, scholar bowl, speech and debate, and athletics. Although Thomas Jefferson is a very excellent academic school, they could work on improving their athletics program for student athletes. Like every school, there are athletes who are able to compete at the next level, but for the athletes at Thomas Jefferson they are limited to scouting and recruiting. TJ is not for everybody, but mostly for students who are willing to work hard for a good grade.
