I've gone here since pre-K. This school is great because it offers a quality education you really can't get from any other school in the area. The small size is also great because you have the opportunity to be a part of varsity teams and concurrent activities you would miss out on otherwise. The music and arts program is amazing and unique. The administration sometimes makes questionable decisions, but overall the culture and liberal arts education is a great environment to grow up in. It definitely is not for everyone, but if you're motivated and care about your education and your community it is a great place to be.
I had a wonderful experience at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School. I transferred in from a public junior high, and in my four years at Thomas Jefferson, my education was transformed. There is a huge emphasis on college readiness in all of the courses, and special seminars and activities offered by the school only helped prepare me more. The only drawback of the school is the size and culture, as it was a bit of a shock going from a graduating class of less than thirty with very limited freedom to a large university without anyone coddling me. Overall, it is an amazing school academically, just make sure that the academic pressure doesn't result in a lack of social skills by the time you graduate.
Students are competitive, and the options for extracurricular activities are very wide for such a small community. The teachers provide a very welcoming environment while helping students reach college readiness. Music and the arts are very high-level and students love to get committed to them. Students here love the annual high school trip, attending sports games, and participating in the musical. The community is the perfect size to be able to have school-wide events such as barbecues and the all-school picnic.
