The AVID program run by the amazing Marilyn Schumacher is a program that has set many of our scholars ready for college. The ASB officers, and the senior class are always working to get everyone involved with school events. Catering to their fellow students and always creating events for everybody to enjoy. Although there are some ups and downs, the teachers are there to support their students every step of the way!
My experience at Thomas Jefferson has been pretty good. I like the overall diversity of the school and how welcoming the school is. In comparison to other schools, it is more welcoming towards incoming freshman and in trying to make their transition smoother. However, although it is a pretty diverse school, as a Hispanic minority I still feel as though I am not being represented enough, especially in the foreign languages department. I would change the amount of white teachers teaching Spanish/foreign language classes in exchange for teachers that are from the same background or are native speakers of the language. In addition to this, I would also want our counselors to be more supportive and helpful towards advising the students at Thomas Jefferson.
